Aparan is one of the 3 cities in the Aragatsotn province in Armenia, it has a population of around 6500 people. The first reference to the city was made in the 2nd century.
The city is very well known for its icy cold streams, which have their sources in the highest mountains in Armenia and are being nourished by the water flows running down from the mountain Aragats. Aragats, as well as the river Kasakh and Gegharot waterfall are the wonders of nature surrounding Aparan. During your 500km hiking you’ll have the chance to pass by these places and enjoy the breathtaking landscapes.
The city is also culturally and spiritually rich, among the dozens of cultural sites the most significant one is certainly the Kasakh Basilica dating back to the 4-5th centuries. Here in Aparan, you can also discover the Renaissance monument by Rafael Israelyan, a mausoleum and a pilgrimage site of Armenian commander Dro, the Armenian Alphabet Monument, and many other fascinating old and new monuments.
